No Mercy For Madonna

Madonna and David will have to wait a little longer for a little Malawian girl.

It looks like Madonna’s plan to adopt a 4 year old Malawian girl has hit a snag. Yesterday, the country’s High Court ruled that the Material Girl will not be allowed to adopt Mercy James.

Court registrar Ken Manda told the press that Madonna’s bid to adopt Mercy was rejected because the singer was not a resident of Malawi. In her ruling, Judge Esimie Chombo said celebrity adoptions in the country could eventually lead to child trafficking. “Anyone could come to Malawi and quickly arrange for an adoption that might have grave consequences on the very children the law seeks to protect.”

But don’t count Madonna out. She has already given her lawyers instructions to appeal the judgment. Her lawyer, Alan Chinula said he is currently studying the judgment “so that I can come up with the grounds to appeal.”
