Kal Penn, who plays Dr. Lawrence Kutner on TV series House, is set to become associate director in the White House office of public liaison, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Kal is taking a big pay cut for his new job but the Harold And Kumar film star confesses that he had always been a bit of a political junkie and that this change in careers was partly inspired by his grandparents, who marched with Mahatma Gandhi in the Indian independence movement.
The 31-year-old, who campaigned for U.S. President Barack Obama, received the job offer a few months ago after mentioning an interest in joining the administration. He says that with his new job, he won’t be acting for a while but he still has a passion for acting. Good luck, Kal!
