The buzz is not always in Hollywood. Far away across the pond on the show Britain’s Got Talent something unexpected happened. A star was born. She is an unassuming contestant who gave an amazing performance. Her name is Susan Boyle and she has become a web phenomenon after singing I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables. Her performance stunned the audience as well as the judges: Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell.
Don't doubt the talent!
Before she went on stage, 48-year-old Susan took potshots at herself, saying that she’s never been kissed and lives alone with her cat, Pebbles. Oh and she’s unemployed too, but hopes that will change. Well, it was clear everybody expected her to do a William Hung, but how wrong they were! She sang amazingly well. An unknown just before the show, suddenly, Susan became an overnight sensation as she became one of the web’s top searches. Blogs and gossip rags cashed in on her. The Mirror jumped right in for the story, reporting that Susan thought she “looked like a garage” on TV. It also said that she received a standing ovation when she showed up at her local church later.
Other reports said that as a child, Susan was the target of bullies because of a disability. But with her newfound fame, she has the last laugh. In fact, she’s already meeting with officials from Simon’s Sony BMG label it seems.
We know that this is the year of Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle, but Susan Boyle’s (no relation to Danny) victory has nothing to do with the former, except that hers is also the story of an underdog who makes it as a top dog, and don’t we all love underdog stories. Yay!
Even Simon “Nasty” Cowell who rolled his eyes at her had to back paddle after Susan sang her heart out… Oh well, I don’t wanna spoil it for you. Why don’t you check it out for yourself here. Susan’s fame may not shine forever, but right now, she deserves her 15 minutes of fame.
