Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali is continuing on the road to stardom – she has landed a role in a commercial with A-lister Nicole Kidman.

The eight-year-old actress was plucked from the slums of Mumbai, India to star in Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning movie, and her father hopes that her rising profile could lead to a better life for the family. Rafiq Ali says, “We are very proud of her and hope she continues to become a big star. Maybe then we will be able to live in a proper house. She was paid more for the ad than the movie.” For me, it’s sad that her father sees her as nothing but a cash cow with the responsibility to see to the family’s future. Excuse me, but shouldn’t that be his job? He doesn’t even care if she gets to further her education, which could provide a way out of poverty.
