Want to Change Your Life? - Let Go of 27 Things

We all know that clutter is a bad thing. Most of us try to be organized but sometimes it all just gets so overwhelming that we don’t know where to start.

I’ve met many people who have significant issues with clutter – it’s everywhere. Or, perhaps there’s just one area (like the basement or the garage) but it’s so full of stuff that it seems impossible to make any impact on it whatsoever.

Why do we have so much stuff? And why is it so hard to let go of it? In Feng Shui, everything is seen as being alive with energy. So your possessions are not simply inanimate objects, they actually have energy, a life of their own if you like. But even more than that, your possessions are also alive with something else - your memories and associations. If you take a look around the room now and observe the things around you – the desk, the chair, a picture on the wall, a cabinet, a table, an ornament, and so on – stop and pay attention for a moment. Think about the object and you’ll probably find those memories coming to you.

Think about it. You go on vacation and have a wonderful time. You bring back a memento, something to display in your home. Every time you look at that object, it reminds you of the wonderful time you had. It makes you feel good, uplifts you. On the other hand, you may have something in your home that reminds you of a difficult time in your life, a time of struggle and hardship, or perhaps you have something that reminds you of someone who treated you badly – a nasty divorce perhaps, or an old boyfriend/girlfriend.

Since these objects are alive with your memories and associations, they are connected to you energetically. This means that when you no longer use something and you put it to one side (perhaps in that pile of stuff in the basement or garage) it’s just like you’re putting a bit of your energy there with it, which you are. So the more items you have, and the longer they’ve been there, the more your energy feels drained and you feel stuck. The very fact that it is connected to you energetically often explains why you might find it so difficult to get rid of something even though you don’t use it any more.

We can get very emotional about our stuff, which makes it difficult to let it go. Very often we hang on to things simply as a way to hang to the past, to the way things used to be. But when you do that it actually stops you from moving forward in life now. Hanging on to things from the past that no longer have current value for you can actually keep you stuck in life.

One of the best things you can do to help you and your life move forward is to let go of things you no longer need, use, want or love. But when you have a lot of it, when clutter is overwhelming for you, it can be very difficult to know where to start. And because there is so much, it will make you feel drained, and paralyzed – unable to do anything about it. There is an easy, and powerful way to get started. In Feng Shui, the number 9 is used a lot. It is considered to be a power number. It always adds up to itself (9 + 9 = 18; 8 + 1 = 9) and so on. The number 27 is considered to be particularly good. So – the idea is to simply let go of 27 things. That will create enough of a shift energetically to get something moving for you, which should then help you to move forward – perhaps even to deal with the rest of the clutter.

Even if you don’t have a lot of clutter, getting rid of 27 things is a powerful thing to do. Try it. What have you got to lose? It could be 27 of anything – magazines, socks, anything that you don’t need. So go ahead and try it – and remain open to something new and positive coming into your life. Perhaps somebody offers you some help, perhaps you’re offered a new job or you’re given a pay raise in your current job. It could be anything, so be open and ready to receive it. Try it today, put the power of 27 to work in your life.
